Urban farming is producing crops in a urban non rural space. It consists mainly of growing in the most space affective way; using wide rows, companion planting, and crop rotation. It also uses Inter cropping to make use of all available space by planting fast growing crops in between later slower growing crops.
By farming this way there is less need for frequent watering. Plants grow and thrive in a more natural instinctual way. And One plant benefits the other through each plants strength. In In other words, Marigolds may be planted beside beans to draw in predatory bugs to control common bean pests. And overall help keep everything more balanced.
Farming this way is a delight. Finding that each plant can handle just fine on their own without need for pesticides, fungicides is a much better way to go. There may be the occasional breakout of bugs and/or mildew issues. But much less than you would think! I find that if you feed the soil; it will feed the plants. So as you may not already know I am a Chemical, GMO, Synthetic free grower.
